Curator's Corner:
Emily Mao

Curator’s Corner is a special and ongoing blog feature that highlights artists currently on display in one of Round Rock Arts galleries. Our Gallery Curator, Carol Lee, speaks with these artists to better understand their inspiration, their art, their perspective, and their craft.  Emily Mao currently has her work on display in the Round Rock Arts Artspace Gallery now through September 27th.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK?

“I’m Emily Mao (13 years old), my artwork is titled, Chinese Zodiac.

What inspires my work:

As a Chinese American, I thought it would be fun to do something Chinese-related. The first thing that came to my mind was a dragon, but that would be a little too simple. Then the Chinese zodiac popped into my head. I thought it was a great idea, but it would be even better if all of them were more mythical instead of everyday animals.”
