Definition of childhood: a state of being from birth to adolescence, or between infancy and self-sufficiency.
Biologically, childhood lasts until adolescence. However, in some cultures one is considered a child until reaching a prescribed age. In the US, childhood officially ends at 18.
What does childhood mean to you, as an artist?
Is it happy memories of you growing up in a rural village, going barefoot, playing in mud, doing homework with a parent’s help, or riding your grandfather’s favorite horse? Or alternatively, growing up in a city and playing in a park, ice-skating, taking ballet lessons or playing football.
Or are your memories less joyful? Were you afraid of the boogeyman? Did you frequently go hungry? Were you alone too much?
We all recall the teenage years, grappling with our role in society. And then you get to watch your children grow and experience a different world from yours!
Perhaps for you it’s about being a grandparent and spending time with your grandchildren?
We cannot wait to see your interpretation of childhood, whether past, present or the future!
